The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Bo Petersson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sverker Blixt in the 15th minute of play. The Lund fans' excitement grew in the 16th match minute when Lund's Sverker Blixt looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Bo Petersson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sverker Blixt in the 22nd minute of play. Manfred Eklund fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bo Petersson having to interfere. Sverker Blixt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Thomas Lindberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 39thth minute of the game Sverker Blixt who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rödeby's Bo Petersson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 42 played minutes Lund got a freekick which was hit by Karl Örnberg. Rödeby's Bo Petersson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sverker Blixt in the 44th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The audience was convinced that Sverker Blixt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Bo Petersson was relentless in the 52nd minute of the game. Emil Månsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bengt Lönn in the 54th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Lund's zone, Bengt Lönn stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sverker Blixt got free with Bo Petersson in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Allan Bokelund sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Manfred Eklunds short, quick shot in the 78thth minute got Bo Petersson to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sverker Blixt in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bo Petersson saved Rödeby from getting behind. 80 minutes into the game, Allan Bokelund was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Rödeby's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lund the free kick. In the 80th match minute, Rödeby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Allan Bokelund to maneuver through the defense. Sverker Blixt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 88 minutes, Thomas Lindberg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lund's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thomas Lindberg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 89 minutes into the game, Sverker Blixt lined in a short shot 1-2 behind a frustrated Bo Petersson. After 95 minutes of play Rödeby's Allan Bokelund was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 96th match minute, Rödeby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Allan Bokelund to maneuver through the defense. Lund's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
