But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bengt Söderberg couldn't finish the play. Magnus Emander received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Kurt Ryberg came out and tried to block the shot, but Magnus Emander slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 19th minute. Leo Lundberg hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Bengt Söderberg managed to get in a good position for a shot. Årsta FF's supporters rose to their feet, but Bengt Söderberg was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sture Wickander breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Bengt Söderberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bengt Söderberg struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Sture Wickander didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Årsta FF. Nils-Emil Björklund took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Sture Wickander. IF Eksjö Fotboll's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Paul Örnberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

IF Eksjö Fotboll's Sture Wickander proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save IF Eksjö Fotboll from getting a goal against them. A collision led to IF Eksjö Fotboll getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Peter Bergsten hit a great ball. If Paul Örnberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bengt Söderberg in the 81st minute of play forced IF Eksjö Fotboll's goalkeeper Sture Wickander to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 85th minute, IF Eksjö Fotboll's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Paul Örnberg fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Årsta FF's Paul Örnberg got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Sture Wickander stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bengt Söderberg's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. The supporters of IF Eksjö Fotboll booed when Årsta FF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nils-Emil Björklund didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Calle Josefsson in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kurt Ryberg saved Årsta FF from getting behind.
