The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ingmar Melin's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 4thth minute, Karl-Oskar Sjögren skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. A collision led to Fagersta AIK getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Torgny Beckman hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Tanumshede FF's Håkan Lindgren slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Karl-Oskar Sjögren. That made the score 1-0 after 7 minutes of play. Thomas Stenqvist's late challenge caught a Fagersta AIK's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Thomas Stenqvist helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Fagersta AIK booed when Tanumshede FF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thomas Stenqvist didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Åke Blomberg came up free with the goalie in the 14th minute, the Fagersta AIK fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Åke Blomberg couldn't finish the play. 17 minutes into the match, Fagersta AIK's goalkeeper Karl-Oskar Sjögren had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ingmar Melin. An unexpectedly hard shot by Håkan Lindgren in the 18th minute of play forced Fagersta AIK's goalkeeper Karl-Oskar Sjögren to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Leonardo Lööf recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ingmar Melin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Karl-Oskar Sjögren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Ingmar Melin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 36 minutes of play, Tanumshede FF's Ingmar Melin made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Karl-Oskar Sjögren was left in no man's land by his defense there! Mattias Caspersson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marko Hermansson in the 40th minute of play. When Leonardo Lööf came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Tanumshede FF fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leonardo Lööf couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marko Hermansson stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Mårten Skröder hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nils-Åke Alström hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. The long shot by Manfred Dahlbom in the 56th minute really tested Mattias Caspersson's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Karl-Oskar Sjögren showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leonardo Lööf, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Karl-Oskar Sjögren showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ingmar Melin in the 59th minute of the match. 63 minutes into the match, Fagersta AIK's goal looked a bit too open when Ingmar Melin came free, but Karl-Oskar Sjögren reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Fagersta AIK's Marko Hermansson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mattias Caspersson. That made the score 2-1 after 68 minutes of play. If Nils-Åke Alström had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A wasted opportunity for Tanumshede FF. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Torgny Beckman during the 82nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Fagersta AIK's Torgny Beckman got a free kick in the 82nd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ingmar Melin in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Karl-Oskar Sjögren saved Fagersta AIK from getting behind. Leonardo Lööf might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Karl-Oskar Sjögren. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Leonardo Lööf ran back to his position shaking his head. Karl-Oskar Sjögren took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Herbert Brun, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Fagersta AIK getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Marko Hermansson hit a great ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Tanumshede FF players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
