After 4 minutes of play, Eskilstuna SK's Sebastian Hellström made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sten Östlund was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 11th match minute, Eskilstuna SK was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivar Wallmark to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 12 minutes, Ingvar Markusson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hudiksvall's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ingvar Markusson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Patric Pålsson's late challenge caught a Eskilstuna SK's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Patric Pålsson helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Hudiksvall getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Patric Pålsson hit a great ball. Eric Nordlander sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Eskilstuna SK's zone, Stig-Åke Kellberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Uno Björnberg came out of the goal and Stig-Åke Kellberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 30 minutes, Richard Karlsson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Hudiksvall and the Eskilstuna SK players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 30 played minutes Hudiksvall got a freekick which was hit by Richard Karlsson. Thomas Svanberg, 30 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Ingvar Markusson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stig-Åke Kellberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uno Björnberg having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Eric Nordlander to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ingvar Markusson in the 51st minute of play forced Eskilstuna SK's goalkeeper Uno Björnberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Ingvar Markusson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Hudiksvall's Richard Karlsson got a free kick in the 57th minute. 63 minutes into the match, Eskilstuna SK's goalkeeper Uno Björnberg had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Stig-Åke Kellberg. Stig-Åke Kellberg in the 67thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Uno Björnberg, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 72 minutes, Dan Sandström mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Eskilstuna SK and the Hudiksvall players grew even worse after the yellow card. During the 73rd minute of the match Dan Sandström completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Dan Sandström a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Uno Björnberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stig-Åke Kellberg in the 85th minute of play. Uno Björnberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ingvar Markusson's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. In the 87thth minute of the game Ingvar Markusson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Eskilstuna SK's Uno Björnberg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Hudiksvall's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Eskilstuna SK had won, even though Hudiksvall had held more of the ball.
