After 8 minutes Djurgården United's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Roger Vallgren who took care of the corner kick. An unexpected shot in the 10th minute by Wit Wojtkiewicz got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Roger Hydén hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. After 16 minutes Djurgården United's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Roger Vallgren who took care of the corner kick. The crowd rose to their feet as Emil Gadd kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Karl-Åke Qvalfeldt. That made the score 1-0 in the 17 minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gratien Étoile got free with Karl-Åke Qvalfeldt in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gratien Étoile received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Karl-Åke Qvalfeldt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Åke Åberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 27th minute Djurgården United were awarded a corner. Samuel Lind went to the cornerflag to take it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sonny Njurenius in the 28th minute of play forced PHammar FC's goalkeeper Ezra Swenson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match clock showed 29 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Sonny Njurenius sped through PHammar FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ezra Swenson. With a little luck, Djurgården United's Karl-Åke Qvalfeldt got control of the ball when Gratien Étoile tried to sneak it across the goal line. 38 minutes into the match, PHammar FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ernst Burman came free, but Ezra Swenson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of PHammar FC booed when Djurgården United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sverker Mossberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 46th match minute, PHammar FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Roger Vallgren to maneuver through the defense. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ernst Burman made a kick off. In the 92nd minute, Gratien Étoile left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The PHammar FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. In the 96th minute Gratien Étoile shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karl-Åke Qvalfeldt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Djurgården United's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
