Empo FF's Cesare Varglien played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kent Lenberg in the 17th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Kent Lenberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cesare Varglien was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. In the 25th minute, Remigio Leoncio ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Peter Shilton was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Spike Delamore fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Shilton having to interfere. A very good chance. 44 minutes into the match, Empo FF's goalkeeper Cesare Varglien had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kent Lenberg. Cesare Varglien didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Kent Lenberg went, in the 47th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Remigio Leoncio stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Remigio Leoncio took a quick shot and it went in 1-3 without a chance for Peter Shilton to make any attempt to save it.
