Henrik Systad struck a weak shot in the 5th minute. Frode Stenersen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Viking FK. The audience was convinced that Ask Tønsberg's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Frode Stenersen was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. The supporters of FC Lakrisal booed when Viking FK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henrik Systad didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ask Tønsberg in the 15th minute of play forced FC Lakrisal's goalkeeper Frode Stenersen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Henrik Systad succeeded in the game's 21st minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-2. After 24 minutes, Ove Tøsse mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Lakrisal and the Viking FK players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in FC Lakrisal's zone, Ask Tønsberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Frode Stenersen came out of the goal and Ask Tønsberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 27th minute, Ask Tønsberg managed to get in a good position for a shot. Viking FK's supporters rose to their feet, but Ask Tønsberg was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Frode Stenersen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 30 played minutes Viking FK got a freekick which was hit by Eilif Westlie. Eilif Westlie hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Henrik Systad recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Frode Stenersen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ask Tønsberg, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ove Tøsse stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Per-Kristian Koppang fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FC Lakrisal's protests and gave Per-Kristian Koppang a yellow card for diving instead. In the 51st minute, Per-Kristian Koppang hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, FC Lakrisal's Frode Stenersen got control of the ball when Ask Tønsberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to FC Lakrisal getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Herrmann Körtge hit a great ball. When Viking FK's Henrik Systad in the 59th minute got a chance for a shot 59th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye FC Lakrisal's goalie prevented a goal. 60 minutes had been played when some careless play by FC Lakrisal's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ask Tønsberg was slow to take the kick. During this time Viking FK's players had a chance to rest. Ask Tønsberg recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, FC Lakrisal's Herrmann Körtge got a free kick in the 65th minute. Henrik Systad sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 66 minutes into the match, FC Lakrisal's goal looked a bit too open when Henrik Systad came free, but Frode Stenersen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Ove Tøsse had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 70th minute Constantino Estebe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stein-Roger Silden saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, FC Lakrisal's Frode Stenersen got control of the ball when Henrik Systad tried to sneak it across the goal line. 76 minutes into the match, FC Lakrisal's goalkeeper Frode Stenersen had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Henrik Systad. Per-Kristian Koppang kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Henrik Systad in the 79th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Frode Stenersen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Ask Tønsberg had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ove Tøsse in the 84th minute of play forced Viking FK's goalkeeper Stein-Roger Silden to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Henrik Systads short, quick shot in the 86thth minute got Frode Stenersen to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ask Tønsberg could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 89th minute of the match, but Frode Stenersen made a huge save. In the 90th minute Viking FK were awarded a corner. Ask Tønsberg went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Viking FK's corner Ask Tønsberg fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Frode Stenersen quite easily take care of the ball. The Viking FK players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
