Torstein Solli hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. After 7 played minutes, Viking FK's Roger Eikås shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Glyn Wedlock came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Viking FK reached it. Stein-Roger Silden stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Hans-Kristian Aanes's shot from short distance in the 12th minute. Stein-Roger Silden made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ivan Óbolo in the 15th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Henrik Systad in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Glyn Wedlock saved Sagene IF from getting behind. The Viking FK fans' excitement grew in the 20th match minute when Viking FK's Henrik Systad looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Hans-Kristian Aanes scored 1-2 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Stein-Roger Silden, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the Viking FK defense, Torstein Solli kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Stein-Roger Silden. The Viking FK fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Stein-Roger Silden should have stopped the shot. In the 39th minute Henrik Systad shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Glyn Wedlock saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Glyn Wedlock showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Henrik Systad, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Glyn Wedlock made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arne Sannerud in the 47th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Henrik Systad was the one to do the kick off. Ask Tønsberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Glyn Wedlock having to interfere. The Sagene IF fans' excitement grew in the 54th match minute when Sagene IF's Torstein Solli looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. Sagene IF were furious when Christer Claussen was red carded, 63 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 62nd minute of the game. One of Sagene IF:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Viking FK:s goal. Sagene IF made a substitution. Christer Kinn replaced Oscar Bergum. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Henrik Systad managed to get in a good position for a shot. Viking FK's supporters rose to their feet, but Henrik Systad was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Glyn Wedlock breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Glyn Wedlock took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arne Sannerud, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Viking FK booed when Sagene IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Torstein Solli didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sagene IF's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Wang Zhen Tian in the 78th minute. In the 79th minute of the match Sagene IF got a corner. Viking FK's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Despite this Stein-Roger Silden quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. William Knutsen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stein-Roger Silden having to interfere. Sagene IF's Kjell Ekeli was substituted for Torstein Solli. Sagene IF's Glyn Wedlock played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eilif Westlie in the 87th minute of play. Mikael Høyer hit a great ball. Stein-Roger Silden made an important save on a dangerous shot by Christer Kinn in the 94th minute. After a rather tough play, Sagene IF's Ivan Óbolo got a free kick in the 96th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Henrik Systad in the 97th minute of play forced Sagene IF's goalkeeper Glyn Wedlock to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Sagene IF eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
