Marc Klerk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Ritsumazijl booed when FC Gelsenkirchen 04 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Remco van der Valk didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aad Oosterman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marc Klerk having to interfere. Aad Oosterman's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Marc Klerk firmly grabbed it by the left post. Sjoerd Ieberts showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Erik Scholten in the 28th minute of the match. Frits Ijksma might have been able to make a better finish in the 32nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Sjoerd Ieberts. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Frits Ijksma ran back to his position shaking his head. If Frits Ijksma had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aad Oosterman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ritsumazijl's Sjoerd Ieberts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frits Ijksma in the 44th minute of play. 45 minutes into the match, FC Gelsenkirchen 04's Frits Ijksma sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sjoerd Ieberts narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Aad Oosterman to strike the kick off in the second half. Erik Scholten received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Sjoerd Ieberts tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, FC Gelsenkirchen 04's Remco van der Valk got a free kick in the 54th minute. Coenraad Eulen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marc Klerk having to interfere. Erik Scholten recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 88 minutes, Aad Oosterman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ritsumazijl's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aad Oosterman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ritsumazijl's Sjoerd Ieberts proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Ritsumazijl from getting a goal against them. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
