When Jan Bosma came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the Sun Boys fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jan Bosma couldn't finish the play. 6 minutes into the match, Vemde FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jan Hebels came free, but Gertjan Degens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vemde FC's goalkeeper Gertjan Degens, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sun Boys's Jan Bosma got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Pieter-Jan Kloppenburg recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Vemde FC's zone, Jan Hebels stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gertjan Degens came out of the goal and Jan Hebels tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sun Boys's attentive Kristof Janus managed to snatch the ball when Kristof van der Werff made a throw-in in the 28th minute of the game. With his leg Gertjan Degens managed to avoid a goal in the 29thth minute, when Sun Boys's Jan Hebels fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Jan Hebels put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Gertjan Degens. Hans-Cees Roelofs hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Jan Bosma struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Gertjan Degens didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sun Boys. Gertjan Degens made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Jan Bosma sent off a good shot on target. Gertjan Degens was out of position in the 36 minute of play, and Jan Hebels capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jan Hebels really showed his touch with that goal: 3-0. In the 40th minute, Jan Hebels left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sun Boys fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. If Jan Hebels had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sun Boys's David Schoonbeek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Henny Fransen in the 48th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jan Hebels to make the kick off. Marco Verheije received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Gertjan Degens tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pieter-Jan Kloppenburg got free with David Schoonbeek in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sun Boys's supporters rose to their feet, but Jan Bosma was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gertjan Degens breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jan Hebels sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Sun Boys had played much better football throughout.
