Fokke Roewen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eric de Mol having to interfere. FC Groningen's Sebastiaan Saarberg couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 18th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Reithorst SC. In the 21st minute, Stef van Mol made a precise shot to the right of Mathias Roordink. FC Groningen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. After a defensive mix-up in FC Groningen's zone, Stef van Mol stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mathias Roordink came out of the goal and Stef van Mol tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jan Zuid in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Mathias Roordink saved FC Groningen from getting behind. In the 31st match minute, FC Groningen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jacques van Dalen to maneuver through the defense. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Groningen's goalkeeper Mathias Roordink, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 37th minute, Victor Hulzebos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kurt Roodenburg took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 38th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Mathias Roordink. Reithorst SC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jan Zuid was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mathias Roordink breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Fokke Roewen's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 56thth minute, Eric de Mol skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 57 minutes into the match, FC Groningen's Govert Zoetebier sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eric de Mol narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Mathias Roordink dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-0. When Gerwin Busch fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Reithorst SC's protests and gave Gerwin Busch a yellow card for diving instead. In the 92nd minute, Gerwin Busch hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
