Spectators: 6724 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1724, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Arno Ricksen got the match started through his kick off. In the 3rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Hupsel's goalkeeper Gijsbert Averdijk, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Niels-Jan Dilling hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. In the 7th minute, Bart Verweijen left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hupsel fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 10th minute, Roelof Ros got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Arno Ricksen struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Gijsbert Averdijk didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Varsselder HC. An unexpected shot in the 15th minute by Gert Roodenburg got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. A collision led to Varsselder HC getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. John Mulders hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Varsselder HC defense, Marc Haken kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gert Strobos. The Varsselder HC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gert Strobos should have stopped the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gert Roodenburg got free with Gijsbert Averdijk in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Varsselder HC's Arno Ricksen got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gijsbert Averdijk came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Varsselder HC's Gert Roodenburg. But to his dismay, Gert Roodenburg quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. When Jan van Schaik fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Varsselder HC's protests and gave Jan van Schaik a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arno Ricksen in the 46th minute of play forced Hupsel's goalkeeper Gijsbert Averdijk to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marc Haken was the one to do the kick off. Bart Verweijen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Gert Strobos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Varsselder HC's Gert Roodenburg got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gert Roodenburg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gert Roodenburg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gijsbert Averdijk having to interfere. Arno Ricksen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Gijsbert Averdijk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. John Mulders hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice moves Bart Verweijen could shoot a difficult shot in the 82nd minute, which Gert Strobos however easily saved by the left post. 83 minutes into the match, Hupsel's goal looked a bit too open when Arno Ricksen came free, but Gijsbert Averdijk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arno Ricksen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gijsbert Averdijk read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. 90 minutes into the match, Bart Verweijen had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gert Strobos. Varsselder HC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bart Verweijen was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roelof Ros in the 95th minute of play forced Varsselder HC's goalkeeper Gert Strobos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hupsel's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
