Rik Hekman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luuk Beuk in the 24th minute of play. fc groningen's Rik Hekman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luuk Beuk in the 26th minute of play. Rik Hekman stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luuk Beuk's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. Rik Hekman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luuk Beuk, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Nieuwveen SC getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Edwin de Jong hit a great ball. 37 minutes into the game, Bertus Wielaert cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Rik Hekman was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 42 minutes into the match, fc groningen's goal looked a bit too open when Bertus Wielaert came free, but Rik Hekman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bertus Wielaert might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rik Hekman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bertus Wielaert ran back to his position shaking his head. Bertus Wielaert recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to fc groningen getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Dennis Blikman hit a great ball. The fc groningen players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Nieuwveen SC were winning 0-1.

Rik Hekman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bertus Wielaert, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. 58 minutes into the game, Co Landman was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. fc groningen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nieuwveen SC the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in fc groningen fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 58th minute. Penalty! When the match had been going on for 60 minutes, Nieuwveen SC's Jorn Bos got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Rik Hekman. If Marnix Paauwe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Bertus Wielaert spun around in front of the goal 75 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of fc groningen's goal. Rik Hekman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bertus Wielaert in the 80th minute of play. In the 81st match minute, Nieuwveen SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Philip Hommes to maneuver through the defense. If Luuk Beuk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th minute Bertus Wielaert shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rik Hekman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bertus Wielaert in the 95th minute of play forced fc groningen's goalkeeper Rik Hekman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Luuk Beuk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The fc groningen fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Nieuwveen SC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
