When Foeke Jurjens fell near the penalty area in the 5th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wanroij Excelsior's protests and gave Foeke Jurjens a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Wanroij Excelsior getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Foeke Jurjens hit a great ball. With his leg Daan Beukers managed to avoid a goal in the 6thth minute, when Gortel V.V.'s Iwan van Zaanen fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 12th minute, one of Gortel V.V.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Gortel V.V.. In the 14th minute there was a penalty for Wanroij Excelsior. Pieter-Jan Lute stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Abraham Hofsteenge. 0-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Henk van Dongen during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 17th minute, Henk van Dongen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Abraham Hofsteenge showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robert-Jan de Vos in the 21st minute of the match. Abraham Hofsteenge made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jeffrey Wander in the 22nd minute of play. Jef Tonnis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Daan Beukers made a huge save. Daan Beukers made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Iwan van Zaanen sent off a good shot on target. Abraham Hofsteenge showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robert-Jan de Vos in the 30th minute of the match. 32 minutes into the game, Gortel V.V.'s Jelte Tigelaar nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Daan Beukers made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Iwan van Zaanen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Daan Beukers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Iwan van Zaanen's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Daan Beukers firmly grabbed it by the left post. 40 minutes into the match, Jeffrey Wander notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Gortel V.V.'s Abraham Hofsteenge. Abraham Hofsteenge was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Wanroij Excelsior's Daan Beukers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Wanroij Excelsior from getting a goal against them. If Jef Tonnis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Jeffrey Wander made the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Robert-Jan de Vos got free with Abraham Hofsteenge in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 62nd minute, Wanroij Excelsior's Pieter-Jan Lute seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Pieter-Jan Lute the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Wanroij Excelsior protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Pieter-Jan Lute had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jef Tonnis in the 63rd minute of play forced Wanroij Excelsior's goalkeeper Daan Beukers to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 65thth minute of the game Iwan van Zaanen who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Wanroij Excelsior's Daan Beukers was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 75th match minute, Wanroij Excelsior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robert-Jan de Vos to maneuver through the defense. In the 78th minute of the match Gortel V.V. got a corner. Wanroij Excelsior's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jef Tonnis ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Bernard Hilkes got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Daan Beukers quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Iwan van Zaanen in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. Gortel V.V. were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Wanroij Excelsior to leave the ground with a draw.
