The supporters of Go Ahead Eagles booed when Avenhorn V.V. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Herbert Post didn't get a good kick on the ball. 30 minutes into the match, Avenhorn V.V.'s goal looked a bit too open when Ruud Rodenberg came free, but Lucien Schokkenbroek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jhon de Kort struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Lucien Schokkenbroek didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Go Ahead Eagles. After a defensive mix-up in Avenhorn V.V.'s zone, Ruud Rodenberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lucien Schokkenbroek came out of the goal and Ruud Rodenberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 44 minutes, Jhon de Kort managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Go Ahead Eagles's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jhon de Kort was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bastiaan Höhenstein made a kick off. In the 53rdth minute of the game Ruud Rodenberg who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Avenhorn V.V.'s Lucien Schokkenbroek was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ruud Rodenberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Filip Decheiver kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. Lucien Schokkenbroek was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 67th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Gert Boezeman. Lucien Schokkenbroek made an important save on a dangerous shot by Harmen Janssen in the 69th minute. In the 77th minute, Ruud Rodenberg got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jhon de Kort sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Harmen Stuijt hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. In the 84th minute, Bjorn Wemers hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Jhon de Kort came up free with the goalie in the 85th minute, the Go Ahead Eagles fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jhon de Kort couldn't finish the play. Ruud Rodenberg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lucien Schokkenbroek having to interfere. After some careless play in the Go Ahead Eagles defense, Bastiaan Höhenstein kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Douwe Velez. The Go Ahead Eagles fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Douwe Velez should have stopped the shot. Go Ahead Eagles played a much better game than Avenhorn V.V. and deserved their victory. The Avenhorn V.V. players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
