The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jaap Hoogsteen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Koen Claevers in the 5th minute of play. 7 minutes into the game, Coos Bronkhorst threw the ball into play from the sideline. FC Gemelli's Hugo Vroom quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. FC Gemelli's Wilco Höhenstein proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save FC Gemelli from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Steven Hanekamp in the 11th minute of play forced FC Gemelli's goalkeeper Wilco Höhenstein to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Coos Bronkhorst sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Adriaan Ritsma scored 0-1 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jaap Hoogsteen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Mark Ravenbergen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Wilco Höhenstein made a huge save. If Koen Claevers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Steven Hanekamp charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Steven Hanekamp the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Terhorne getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Steven Hanekamp hit a great ball. Koen Claevers struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Jaap Hoogsteen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Gemelli. Jaap Hoogsteen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Koen Claevers, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 36th minute there was a penalty for FC Gemelli. Koen Claevers stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Jaap Hoogsteen. 0-2. Jaap Hoogsteen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adriaan Ritsma in the 39th minute of the match. 40 minutes into the match, Koen Claevers notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Terhorne's Jaap Hoogsteen. Jaap Hoogsteen was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 43 played minutes Terhorne got a freekick which was hit by Riemer Klerk. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Koen Claevers managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Gemelli's supporters rose to their feet, but Koen Claevers was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jaap Hoogsteen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 48 minutes into the game, FC Gemelli's Adriaan Ritsma nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jaap Hoogsteen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mark Ravenbergen was the one to do the kick off. Jaap Hoogsteen didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Adriaan Ritsma went, in the 60th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-6 was the resulting score. Jaap Hoogsteen came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Gemelli's José Arruda. But to his dismay, José Arruda quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-7. In the 69th minute Koen Claevers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jaap Hoogsteen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jaap Hoogsteen made a fantastic save in the 72nd minute, when Adriaan Ritsma sent off a good shot on target. In the 76th minute, Adriaan Ritsma ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jaap Hoogsteen was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-8. The supporters of Terhorne booed when FC Gemelli was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Koen Claevers didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to FC Gemelli getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Hugo Vroom hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Koen Claevers's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jaap Hoogsteen was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. Through an outstanding action, after 90 minutes, Jaap Hoogsteen successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Koen Claevers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jaap Hoogsteen having to interfere. The FC Gemelli supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing FC Gemelli would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
