In the 3rd minute, Pim Stigt made a precise shot to the right of Rolf Degens. Greonterp's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. When Bram Klerk fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored van Basten's protests and gave Bram Klerk a yellow card for diving instead. Bram Klerk hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. In the 15thth minute of the game Mathieu Evans who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Greonterp's Rolf Degens was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 16th minute Douwe Schimmel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolf Degens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rolf Degens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mathieu Evans in the 20th minute of play. Douwe Schimmel blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rolf Degens having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Greonterp's zone, Douwe Schimmel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rolf Degens came out of the goal and Douwe Schimmel tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rolf Degens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mathieu Evans in the 26th minute of play. Theo de Mol made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Lennart Coopman sent off a good shot on target. Greonterp's Richard den Hertogh suffered a concussion in the 35th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. Ferdi Randag sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 42 minutes, Uci Romansyah managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Greonterp's supporters crossed their fingers, but Uci Romansyah was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rolf Degens made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Douwe Schimmel in the 44th minute of play. 46 minutes into the game, van Basten's Mathieu Evans nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rolf Degens made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After the first half van Basten were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Uci Romansyah was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Greonterp's zone, Mathieu Evans stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rolf Degens came out of the goal and Mathieu Evans tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 55th minute, van Basten's Douwe Schimmel ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Rolf Degens. Rolf Degens yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-3. When Mathieu Evans was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 64 minutes had been played. In the 65th match minute, van Basten was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mathieu Evans to maneuver through the defense. The audience was convinced that Uci Romansyah's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Theo de Mol was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. Douwe Schimmel hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Uci Romansyah fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Theo de Mol having to interfere. If Uci Romansyah had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 71st minute the ball was on its way in behind van Basten's goalkeeper Theo de Mol, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Theo de Mol didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Uci Romansyah went, in the 73rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. Uci Romansyah scored 2-3 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Theo de Mol, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Uci Romansyah had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Theo de Mol didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Uci Romansyah went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-3 was the resulting score. Uci Romansyah hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Frank Buskes received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Rolf Degens came out and tried to block the shot, but Frank Buskes slotted it home off the left post making it 3-4 in the 92nd minute.
