The Wessingen SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dirk Rijkaard should have stopped the shot. Dirk Rijkaard showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Foeke Plescher, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. After 10 minutes of play, FC Feyenoord's Lucas Maseland made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dirk Rijkaard was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ricardo Presebal made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Florian Drent sent off a good shot on target. Foeke Plescher took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dirk Rijkaard. Dirk Rijkaard dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. Dirk Rijkaard took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Foeke Plescher, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 24th minute, Oscar Egberts hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Wessingen SC booed when FC Feyenoord was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Egbert Oorschot didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 38 minutes of play, FC Feyenoord's Arno Cruijff made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dirk Rijkaard was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Lucas Maseland managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Feyenoord's supporters rose to their feet, but Lucas Maseland was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dirk Rijkaard breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Dirk Rijkaard didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Stephan Speelman went, in the 46th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-5 was the resulting score. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-5.

The wind increased when Joeri Rieks made the kick off in the second half. Florian Drent recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Foeke Plescher could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Dirk Rijkaard made a huge save. After a rather tough play, FC Feyenoord's Foeke Plescher got a free kick in the 62nd minute. The supporters of Wessingen SC booed when FC Feyenoord was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arno Cruijff didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lucas Maseland sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Foeke Plescher's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dirk Rijkaard was relentless in the 70th minute of the game. Hette Heersprink hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. A hard shot 76 in the game by Foeke Plescher from a close distance when the talented Dirk Rijkaard managed to make a qualified save. Wessingen SC's players were relieved. Foeke Plescher might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dirk Rijkaard. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Foeke Plescher ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of FC Feyenoord booed when Wessingen SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elroy Maurits didn't get a good kick on the ball. After recieving a nice pass, FC Feyenoord's Lucas Maseland tried to score from far away in the 88th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Lucas Maseland received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Dirk Rijkaard tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. FC Feyenoord's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
