A beautiful save bye Ajax Amsterdam's goalie prevented a goal. 10 minutes into the game, The Underdogs's Dolf Schoonderwoerd nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Alvydas Turskis made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. 15 minutes into the match, Dolf Schoonderwoerd notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Ajax Amsterdam's Alvydas Turskis. Alvydas Turskis was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a rather tough play, Ajax Amsterdam's Arne Zwartkruis got a free kick in the 19th minute. After 27 played minutes The Underdogs got a freekick which was hit by Ed Palsma. 30 minutes into the match, The Underdogs's Dolf Schoonderwoerd sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Alvydas Turskis narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 31 minutes into the match, The Underdogs's goal looked a bit too open when Otto Ekgren came free, but Jan Wessel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dolf Schoonderwoerd blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alvydas Turskis having to make a save. In the 34th minute Dolf Schoonderwoerd shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alvydas Turskis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, The Underdogs's Iustin Hațegan got a free kick in the 34th minute. 36 minutes into the match, Pascal Hulsebos dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jan Wessel, 1-2. In the 39th minute, Carlo de Vos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alvydas Turskis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dolf Schoonderwoerd in the 40th minute of the match. The Underdogs's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dolf Schoonderwoerd was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joost Holst was the one to do the kick off. After 51 played minutes Ajax Amsterdam got a freekick which was hit by Ronald Hoogland. Alvydas Turskis made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Dolf Schoonderwoerd sent off a good shot on target. If Dolf Schoonderwoerd had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dolf Schoonderwoerd got free with Alvydas Turskis in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alvydas Turskis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Piearres Olalla in the 58th minute of play. Iustin Hațegan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 62nd minute, The Underdogs's Dolf Schoonderwoerd ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Alvydas Turskis. Alvydas Turskis yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. A collision led to Ajax Amsterdam getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Donald Saarberg hit a great ball. Dolf Schoonderwoerd's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alvydas Turskis read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 70th minute of play. Alvydas Turskis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dolf Schoonderwoerd in the 73rd minute of play. In the 75th minute, Ajax Amsterdam's Ronald Hoogland seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ronald Hoogland the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Ajax Amsterdam protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ronald Hoogland had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 75th match minute, Ajax Amsterdam was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronald Hoogland to maneuver through the defense. Ajax Amsterdam's Hermengildo Txeru was substituted for Joost Holst. Alvydas Turskis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Piearres Olalla in the 79th minute of play. Alvydas Turskis was left in no man's land by his defense there! 88 minutes into the game, Riemer Fries recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Alvydas Turskis. Riemer Fries showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-5. The supporters of Ajax Amsterdam booed when The Underdogs was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Iustin Hațegan didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 94 played minutes The Underdogs got a freekick which was hit by Robin Boelens. When the match was over The Underdogs could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Ajax Amsterdam throughout the match.
