Steve Sladden might have been able to make a better finish in the 10th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Victor Galdes. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Steve Sladden ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, karawetta FC's Cedric Chetcuti got a free kick in the 13th minute. In the 15th minute, Alan Camilleri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Richard Hamilton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John Grimaud, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After 21 played minutes karawetta FC got a freekick which was hit by Malcolm Papagiorcopulo. William Zahra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Richard Hamilton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Steve Sladden's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Victor Galdes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. Steve Sladden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of karawetta FC booed when Balzan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Neville Alessandro didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 47th minute John Grimaud shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Hamilton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

John Grimaud fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Richard Hamilton having to interfere. After 59 minutes of play, karawetta FC's John Grimaud made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Richard Hamilton was left in no man's land by his defense there! Richard Hamilton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Grimaud in the 63rd minute of play. When Balzan's Evan Cuschieri in the 68th minute got a chance for a shot 68th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye karawetta FC's goalie prevented a goal. 70 minutes into the game, William Zahra was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. karawetta FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Balzan the free kick. A collision led to karawetta FC getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. William Zahra hit a great ball. 72 minutes into the match, Balzan's goalkeeper Richard Hamilton had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Brian Dingli. karawetta FC's Victor Galdes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evan Cuschieri in the 74th minute of play. Steve Sladden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Louis Bonello hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. Richard Hamilton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Grimaud in the 88th minute of play. Victor Galdes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Evan Cuschieri in the 90th minute of the match. In the 93rd minute the ball was on its way in behind karawetta FC's goalkeeper Victor Galdes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 95 played minutes karawetta FC got a freekick which was hit by Malcolm Papagiorcopulo. The karawetta FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
