Martin Dougall breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francesco Laus stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpected shot in the 53rd minute by Daryl Anastasi got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After some careless play in the Naxxar Lions F.C. defense, Daniel Bondin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Brian Seychell. The Naxxar Lions F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Brian Seychell should have stopped the shot. 71 minutes into the match, Naxxar Lions F.C.'s Francesco Laus sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Martin Dougall narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Daryl Anastasi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Francesco Laus might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Martin Dougall. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Francesco Laus ran back to his position shaking his head.
