Sean Sammut made an important save on a dangerous shot by Domenic Debono in the 5th minute. Evan Ghio hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. Massimo Pace fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Sammut having to interfere. Ivan Stilon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mellieħa's Kurt Mangion played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cedric Camilleri in the 21st minute of play. Peter Debono charged in rather forcefully in the 23rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Peter Debono the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Peter Debono kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Peter Debono struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Sean Sammut didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mellieħa. Sean Sammut made an important save on a dangerous shot by Massimo Pace in the 35th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Peter Debono in the 36th minute of play forced Valletta Vanguards FC's goalkeeper Sean Sammut to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 39th minute, Jake Catania hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sean Sammut made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Ryan Ciantar sent off a good shot on target. Peter Debono fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Sammut having to interfere. Keith Apap kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. A collision led to Mellieħa getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Oliver Ghio hit a great ball.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Domenic Debono in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sean Sammut saved Valletta Vanguards FC from getting behind. When Evan Ghio came up free with the goalie in the 59th minute, the Mellieħa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Evan Ghio couldn't finish the play. 71 minutes into the match, Valletta Vanguards FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ryan Ciantar came free, but Sean Sammut reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Massimo Pace took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Sean Sammut. Sean Sammut dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Andrew Cohen struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Sean Sammut didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mellieħa. Ryan Ciantar scored 4-1 in the 79th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sean Sammut, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ryan Ciantar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 83 minutes into the match, Valletta Vanguards FC's goal looked a bit too open when Massimo Pace came free, but Sean Sammut reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mellieħa's Stephen Tabone got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 89th minute, Peter Debono got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cedric Camilleri could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 92nd minute of the match, but Kurt Mangion made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Ryan Ciantar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mellieħa's supporters rose to their feet, but Ryan Ciantar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sean Sammut breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mellieħa's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
