Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Christopher Borg Xuereb in the 11th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Sean Sammut prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Tuna Chunks's Christopher Borg Xuereb got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Valletta Vanguards FC getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Jake Gruppetta hit a great ball. The supporters of Valletta Vanguards FC booed when Tuna Chunks was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patrick Tufignio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ivan Stilon received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Keith Casha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Christopher Borg Xuereb's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sean Sammut was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. Adam Azzopardi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Sammut having to interfere. In the 32ndth minute of the game Christopher Borg Xuereb who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Valletta Vanguards FC's Sean Sammut was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Shaun Grima had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tuna Chunks's Adam Azzopardi got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cedric Camilleri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Keith Casha having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christopher Borg Xuereb in the 42nd minute of play forced Valletta Vanguards FC's goalkeeper Sean Sammut to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ivan Stilon to make the kick off. Cedric Camilleri might have been able to make a better finish in the 54th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Keith Casha. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. In the 75th match minute, Tuna Chunks was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Christopher Borg Xuereb to maneuver through the defense. When Christopher Borg Xuereb got the opportunity to take care of a free kick it resulted in a really dangerous shot that almost went in the goal. Instead the ball went too high, a missed opportunity for Tuna Chunks. Raphael Cacciottolo's late challenge caught a Valletta Vanguards FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Raphael Cacciottolo helped the player get up and apologised. Raphael Cacciottolo kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. Keith Casha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cedric Camilleri, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Christopher Borg Xuereb could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Sean Sammut made a huge save. In the 94th minute Cedric Camilleri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Keith Casha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 96 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Adrian Gaffarena sped through Valletta Vanguards FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Sean Sammut. Tuna Chunks's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
