Spectators: 8040 (Terracing: 6000, Seating: 1940, VIP seats: 100) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Marco Van Huytvenne started the match with the kick off. After a rather tough play, Mewchamp united's Cedric Fenech got a free kick in the 13th minute. If Marco Van Huytvenne had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Steve Scerri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marco Van Huytvenne, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. When the match had gone on for 28 minutes, Cedric Fenech put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Tony Dougall. Steve Scerri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marco Van Huytvenne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. George Magro hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Mewchamp united's Martin Trigona tried to score from far away in the 43rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Cedric Fenech blasted a shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tony Dougall having to make a save. Zach Debono received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Tony Dougall tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

In the 56th minute, Marco Van Huytvenne left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Gzira United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claudio Miggiani in the 61st minute of play forced Mewchamp united's goalkeeper Steve Scerri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gzira United's Tony Dougall played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gianluca Troisi in the 66th minute of play. The supporters of Gzira United booed when Mewchamp united was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zach Debono didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 76th minute, Gzira United's Reuben Avellino seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Reuben Avellino the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Gzira United protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Reuben Avellino had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Gzira United fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 75th minute. Penalty! Tony Dougall went to the wrong direction when Martin Trigona was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. 83 minutes into the match, Gzira United's goalkeeper Tony Dougall had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cedric Fenech. Gzira United's Tony Dougall proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Gzira United from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gianluca Troisi in the 89th minute of play forced Gzira United's goalkeeper Tony Dougall to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Claudio Miggiani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Steve Scerri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gzira United walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
