The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Floriana Celtics's Mats Sangolt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dragoş Afloarei in the 3rd minute of play. In the 6th minute, Giorgio Caruana got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Tony Soprano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mats Sangolt read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 10th minute of play. Etienne Blanco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alex Testaferrata Viani in the 12th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Filfla United's Dragoş Afloarei got a free kick in the 13th minute. In the 14th minute, Giorgio Caruana got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A hard shot 21 in the game by John Said from a close distance when the talented Mats Sangolt managed to make a qualified save. Floriana Celtics's players were relieved. The audience thought a goal was coming when John Said got free with Mats Sangolt in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kyle Thake in the 25th minute of play forced Filfla United's goalkeeper Etienne Blanco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. But to his dismay, Kyle Thake quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Giorgio Caruana in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Etienne Blanco prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Hüseyin Rahmi Avcu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After the first half Floriana Celtics were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Dragoş Afloarei made the kick off in the second half. Mats Sangolt stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dragoş Afloarei's shot from short distance in the 57th minute. Floriana Celtics's Mats Sangolt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by John Said in the 66th minute of play. In the 67th match minute, Filfla United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Egon Lång to maneuver through the defense. Floriana Celtics's Matt Sciortino was substituted for Godwin Montesin. After a rather tough play, Filfla United's Egon Lång got a free kick in the 69th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Matt Sciortino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Floriana Celtics's supporters rose to their feet, but Matt Sciortino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Etienne Blanco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd rose to their feet as Kyle Thake kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Etienne Blanco. That made the score 0-2 in the 74 minute of play. In the 77th minute, John Said made a precise shot to the right of Mats Sangolt. Floriana Celtics's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Giorgio Caruanas short, quick shot in the 81stth minute got Etienne Blanco to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Etienne Blanco showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kyle Thake in the 84th minute of the match. Giorgio Caruana kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. If Dragoş Afloarei had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hüseyin Rahmi Avcu kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. The Filfla United supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Floriana Celtics's performance. The match ended with a win for Floriana Celtics.
