Frank Di Fonzo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cosimo Pompilio having to interfere. Concetto Massaro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 9th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpected shot in the 11th minute by Frank Di Fonzo got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After a rather tough play, F.C. Pro Ghila's Alessio Patrizi got a free kick in the 12th minute. In the 14th minute, Frank Di Fonzo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bruno Cera struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Flavio Loreto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for F.C. Pro Ghila. After having played for 36 minutes, Edoardo Tullio managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. F.C. Pro Ghila's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edoardo Tullio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 40 minutes, Carlo Bartolucci mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the F.C. Pro Ghila and the Calcio Catania players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee gave Calcio Catania a penalty, 42 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Bruno Aquilino, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of F.C. Pro Ghila's Cosimo Pompilio. 1-0. After a defensive mix-up in Calcio Catania's zone, Edoardo Tullio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Flavio Loreto came out of the goal and Edoardo Tullio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frank Di Fonzo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 54 minutes, Frank Di Fonzo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Calcio Catania's supporters crossed their fingers, but Frank Di Fonzo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Calcio Catania booed when F.C. Pro Ghila was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Angelo Troiano didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Calcio Catania's Concetto Di Clemente got a free kick in the 61st minute. If Frank Di Fonzo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Antonio Di Bartolo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Flavio Loreto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Frank Di Fonzo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cosimo Pompilio came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by Calcio Catania's Alessandro Scandella. But to his dismay, Alessandro Scandella quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Frank Di Fonzo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cosimo Pompilio having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 93rd minute, Alessandro Scandella managed to get in a good position for a shot. Calcio Catania's supporters rose to their feet, but Alessandro Scandella was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cosimo Pompilio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 96th minute Frank Di Fonzo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cosimo Pompilio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
