The Barletta fans' excitement grew in the 35th match minute when Barletta's Franco Napoleoni looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Eugen Lantz was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 39 minutes into the match. In the 40th minute, Eugen Lantz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Adriano Marcucci showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alvaro Baresi, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. Ettore Romino struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Carlo Trabucco didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Barletta. Alessio Manfredi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carlo Trabucco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alvaro Baresi to make the kick off. Ettore Romino scored 1-2 in the 52nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Carlo Trabucco, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Florian Caneva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Barletta's Adriano Marcucci played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberigo Di Fonzo in the 80th minute of play. In the 82nd minute Ettore Romino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlo Trabucco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Christian De Tommasi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barletta's supporters rose to their feet, but Christian De Tommasi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlo Trabucco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Federico Cilli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ettore Romino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Carlo Trabucco made a huge save. Florian Caneva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlo Trabucco having to interfere. After 93 minutes, Alex Scrima mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lonate Pozzolo and the Barletta players grew even worse after the yellow card.
