The crowd rose to their feet as Bianco Orsini kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Emanuele Ciaccia. That made the score 1-0 in the 18 minute of play. Eraldo Antonacci's late challenge caught a Varese's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Varese's Emanuele Ciaccia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Varese from getting a goal against them. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Anthony Pietrangelo during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
