Ferruccio Berti was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Alex Di Fabio shot the penalty kick right outside the post. When Fabiano Castagna came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the Cosa Nostra fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fabiano Castagna couldn't finish the play. In the 34th minute, Fortitudo's Ferdinando Bearzot seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ferdinando Bearzot the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Fortitudo protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ferdinando Bearzot had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee gave Cosa Nostra a penalty, 36 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Alex Di Fabio, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Fortitudo's Ferruccio Berti. 0-3. Fabiano Castagna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ferruccio Berti having to interfere. Ferruccio Berti stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Arturo Castagna's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Enzo Cauli made the kick off in the second half. Fabiano Castagna struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. When Francesco Lorefice came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Cosa Nostra fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francesco Lorefice couldn't finish the play. 59 minutes into the match, Fortitudo's goalkeeper Ferruccio Berti had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Arturo Castagna. With his leg Ferruccio Berti managed to avoid a goal in the 61stth minute, when Cosa Nostra's Arturo Castagna fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Ferruccio Piccirilli's late challenge caught a Cosa Nostra's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ferruccio Piccirilli helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Cosa Nostra booed when Fortitudo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ferruccio Piccirilli didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind Fortitudo's goalkeeper Ferruccio Berti, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cosa Nostra's Fabiano Castagna got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 71 minutes into the match, Cosa Nostra's goal looked a bit too open when Enzo Cauli came free, but Donato De Leonardis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 74 played minutes Fortitudo got a freekick which was hit by Achille Marinetti. If Enzo Cauli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 82 minutes into the match, Arturo Castagna had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ferruccio Berti. Fortitudo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Arturo Castagna was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabiano Castagna in the 86th minute of play forced Fortitudo's goalkeeper Ferruccio Berti to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Arturo Castagna who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 88thth minute tested the skills of Ferruccio Berti when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Arturo Castagna managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cosa Nostra's supporters rose to their feet, but Arturo Castagna was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ferruccio Berti breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 91 minutes, Arturo Castagna managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. When the match was over Cosa Nostra could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fortitudo throughout the match.
