But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fortunato Gervasi couldn't finish the play. After 5 played minutes Forlimpopoli got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Traini. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filippo Casale in the 10th minute of play forced SSC Napoli's goalkeeper Alberigo Iezzi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 12 minutes into the match, SSC Napoli's goal looked a bit too open when Filippo Casale came free, but Alberigo Iezzi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Achille Giannetta stood somewhat misplaced when Eugenio Campitelli came free in front of goal and shot 1-0 to the left of him in the 13 minute. SSC Napoli's Alberigo Iezzi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Filippo Casale in the 23rd minute of play. After 24 played minutes Forlimpopoli got a freekick which was hit by Cosimo Bertini. After 26 minutes, Eugenio Campitelli made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Forlimpopoli's Achille Giannetta tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filippo Casale in the 30th minute of play forced SSC Napoli's goalkeeper Alberigo Iezzi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alberigo Iezzi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fabio Guaita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alberigo Iezzi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fabio Guaita in the 41st minute of the match. SSC Napoli's Eugenio Campitelli got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cosimo Danza struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Achille Giannetta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SSC Napoli. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Eugenio Campitelli made the kick off in the second half. Alberigo Iezzi didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 56th minute, which inside left pole to 2-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Fortunato Gervasi managed to get in a good position for a shot. SSC Napoli's supporters rose to their feet, but Fortunato Gervasi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Achille Giannetta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cosimo Danza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Achille Giannetta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, SSC Napoli's Cosimo Danza got a free kick in the 67th minute. Forlimpopoli's Cristiano Anzolin got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. SSC Napoli's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Filippo Casale scored to the left of an out of position Alberigo Iezzi, making the score, 2-2. In the 88th match minute, Forlimpopoli was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cristiano Anzolin to maneuver through the defense. Fortunato Gervasi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Achille Giannetta having to interfere. In the 93rd minute, Eraldo Bizzarri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Forlimpopoli's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
