The referee showed János Vincze the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Koppány Galambos was slow to take the kick. During this time Gellénháza's players had a chance to rest. When Gedeon Czakó fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gellénháza's protests and gave Gedeon Czakó a yellow card for diving instead. In the 16th minute, one of Gellénháza:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Gellénháza. János Berki came out of the goal in the 22nd minute to try and stop a shot by Gellénháza's Balázs Barta. But to his dismay, Balázs Barta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Roland Harsányi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Szilveszter Győri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Márton Gácsi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 29 minutes into the game, Arnold Szusza was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gellénháza's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Budapest Honvéd FC the free kick. Bálint Sólyom's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Szilveszter Győri read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. Balázs Barta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without János Berki having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Balázs Barta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. János Berki showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Balázs Barta, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zsolt Győrffy got free with János Berki in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Balázs Barta in the 59th minute of play forced Budapest Honvéd FC's goalkeeper János Berki to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 62 played minutes Budapest Honvéd FC got a freekick which was hit by László Hegedűs. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bálint Sólyom in the 67th minute of play forced Gellénháza's goalkeeper Szilveszter Győri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. János Berki showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Balázs Barta in the 68th minute of the match. After 71 played minutes Budapest Honvéd FC got a freekick which was hit by Márton Gácsi. In the 72nd minute, Koppány Galambos sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Budapest Honvéd FC's János Berki didn't even have to move. Zsolt Győrffys short, quick shot in the 74thth minute got János Berki to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 80th play minute Zsolt Győrffy came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised János Berki. 1-3. Budapest Honvéd FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 86th minute, when Balázs Barta scored to the left of an out of position János Berki, making the score, 1-4. Bálint Sólyom might have been able to make a better finish in the 93rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Szilveszter Győri. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bálint Sólyom ran back to his position shaking his head. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Gellénháza had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
