Carlos Leitão recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zé Roberto Freitas got free with Zsolt Petres in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tamás Bodó made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Leitão in the 18th minute of play. A collision led to Partizán getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Miklós Fenyvesi hit a great ball. In the 28th minute Carlos Leitão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tamás Bodó saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 29 played minutes Újpest FC got a freekick which was hit by Válbson Valadares. After a defensive mix-up in Partizán's zone, Viktor Laczkó stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tamás Bodó came out of the goal and Viktor Laczkó tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Újpest FC's Zsolt Petres got control of the ball when Jeromos Sólyom tried to sneak it across the goal line. Újpest FC's Gyula Szusza managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Miklós Fenyvesi in the 37 minute of the game. Zoltán Lipták was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 41 minutes into the match. Benigno Sidoro walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Miklós Fenyvesi was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 44th minute. Partizán's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Újpest FC's attentive Gyula Szusza managed to snatch the ball when Miklós Fenyvesi made a throw-in in the 56th minute of the game.
