With his leg Jimmy Piau managed to avoid a goal in the 25thth minute, when Caen's Omar Mangin fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. During the 30th minute of the match Kévin Belhomme completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Kévin Belhomme a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Kévin Belhomme kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Freddy Bulle blasted a shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jimmy Piau having to make a save. In the 35th match minute, Caen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Scouarnec to maneuver through the defense. Omar Mangin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 48th minute of the match, but Jimmy Piau made a huge save. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Hassan Gardien could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Noé Fernandes made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Freddy Bulle managed to get in a good position for a shot. Caen's supporters rose to their feet, but Freddy Bulle was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jimmy Piau breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 56 minutes into the game, Paulo Scouarnec was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Caen's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Paquière the free kick. A collision led to Caen getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Anatole Gindre hit a great ball. In the 72nd minute Omar Mangin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jimmy Piau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jimmy Piau showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Omar Mangin, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. In the 97th minute Anatole Gindre shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jimmy Piau saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
