In the 15th match minute, Laxou was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rudy Chauvet to maneuver through the defense. 17 minutes into the match, US Freneuse's goalkeeper Georges Tapie had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Armand Testa. An unexpectedly hard shot by Djimmy Sauer in the 19th minute of play forced Laxou's goalkeeper Chris Ravard to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Biagetti fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chris Ravard having to interfere. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 25th minute of the game. One of US Freneuse:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Laxou:s goal. The referee gave Laxou a penalty, 28 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Dave Gilard, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of US Freneuse's Georges Tapie. 2-0. If David Biagetti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Steevy Pouchin came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the US Freneuse fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Steevy Pouchin couldn't finish the play. Armand Testa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Georges Tapie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Graham Lane managed to get in a good position for a shot. US Freneuse's supporters rose to their feet, but Graham Lane was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Chris Ravard breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 67 minutes into the match, Laxou's Armand Testa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Georges Tapie narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Laxou's Rudy Chauvet got his second yellow card of the match in the 68th minute. The referee ordered Rudy Chauvet off the ground. The supporters of US Freneuse booed when Laxou was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rudy Chauvet didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chris Ravard came out of the goal and Denis Fanget tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 76 minutes, David Biagetti managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. US Freneuse's supporters crossed their fingers, but David Biagetti was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Steevy Pouchin struck a weak shot in the 80th minute. Chris Ravard didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for US Freneuse. If Steevy Pouchin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
