The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ruben Croguennec in the 2nd minute of play forced AS Saint-Étienne's goalkeeper Sofyane Canova to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clovis Queguiner was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Yves Arnal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Moussa Teixeira's late challenge caught a AS Saint-Étienne's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Moussa Teixeira helped the player get up and apologised. Charlie Renou sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Charlie Renou could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Sofyane Canova made a huge save. In the 34th minute, Sébastian Dabin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Charlie Renou in the 39thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal.
