In the 34th minute, one of Castiñeiro:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Castiñeiro. With his leg Claudio Puyol managed to avoid a goal in the 38thth minute, when Castiñeiro's Archibaldo Coello fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Claudio Puyol made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Archibaldo Coello sent off a good shot on target. Gení Martinez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudio Puyol having to interfere. 42 minutes into the match, Peñiscola's goalkeeper Claudio Puyol had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Archibaldo Coello. Peñiscola's Claudio Puyol played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gení Martinez in the 46th minute of play. 48 minutes into the match, Peñiscola's goal looked a bit too open when Gení Martinez came free, but Claudio Puyol reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
