Real Madrid F.C's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oscar Guerrero was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Real Madrid F.C's Gaspar Perpiñán played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnulfo Huguet in the 42nd minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Arnulfo Huguet made the kick off in the second half. Gaspar Perpiñán took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Xove Aguado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Palencia C.F.'s zone, Manuel Benítez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Faustino Tobias came out of the goal and Manuel Benítez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Manuel Benítez who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 65thth minute tested the skills of Faustino Tobias when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 66 minutes into the match, Real Madrid F.C's Oscar Guerrero sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Faustino Tobias narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
