After 12 played minutes, Merens's Sinforoso Lara shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Regis Casillas came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Merens reached it. Eleodoro Rico fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Regis Casillas having to interfere. Ganix Ramos's late challenge caught a Merens's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Bartolo Freire made a fantastic save in the 55th minute, when Siro Serena sent off a good shot on target. In the 57th minute, Iñaki Serena got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bartolo Freire made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Iñaki Serena in the 60th minute of play. Regis Casillas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Angelino Pardo, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute.
