Selmo Barroso breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. NEWELLS OLD BOYS's Vladimir Castellano pulled a muscle in his leg after 15 minutes and couldn't finish the game. A collision led to NEWELLS OLD BOYS getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Eder Cacheres hit a great ball. In the 27th minute, Basic united's Gerard Torrente ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Reinaldo Feal. Reinaldo Feal yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. 31 minutes into the match, NEWELLS OLD BOYS's Baudilio Contreras sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Selmo Barroso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Baudilio Contreras fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Selmo Barroso having to interfere. After having played for 38 minutes, Giorgio Pastor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. NEWELLS OLD BOYS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Giorgio Pastor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Baudilio Contreras received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Selmo Barroso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reinaldo Feal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Milio Ponce De Leon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 43 minutes, Baudilio Contreras managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. NEWELLS OLD BOYS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Baudilio Contreras was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Baudilio Contreras was the one to do the kick off. Basic united's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Baudilio Contreras 62 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baudilio Contreras in the 67th minute of play forced Basic united's goalkeeper Selmo Barroso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Baudilio Contreras received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Selmo Barroso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Reinaldo Feal came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by Basic united's Joseba Carballido. But to his dismay, Joseba Carballido quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Baudilio Contreras received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Selmo Barroso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 85 minutes into the match, NEWELLS OLD BOYS's goal looked a bit too open when Gerard Torrente came free, but Reinaldo Feal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of NEWELLS OLD BOYS booed when Basic united was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gerard Torrente didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Basic united's goalkeeper Selmo Barroso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Baudilio Contreras had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. NEWELLS OLD BOYS's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Basic united had won, even though NEWELLS OLD BOYS had held more of the ball.
