The supporters of NEWELLS OLD BOYS booed when Martorell was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Manolo Acedo didn't get a good kick on the ball. 19 minutes into the match, Martorell's goal looked a bit too open when Giorgio Pastor came free, but Xorxe Bastida reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 35 played minutes Martorell got a freekick which was hit by Manolo Acedo. Reinaldo Feal came out of the goal in the 40th minute to try and stop a shot by Martorell's Iñigo Hernandez. But to his dismay, Iñigo Hernandez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giorgio Pastor in the 45th minute of play forced Martorell's goalkeeper Xorxe Bastida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The wind increased when Thodoris Loukoumas made the kick off in the second half. Evelio Figueroa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Andoitz Tormes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 92nd minute Giorgio Pastor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Xorxe Bastida saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
