The Velez-Malaga fans' excitement grew in the 10th match minute when Velez-Malaga's Crescencio Guijarro looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 17 minutes into the match, Alicante c.f.'s goal looked a bit too open when Xano Castellano came free, but Bernabé Paz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Reno Fonticoba sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Crescencio Guijarro scored 0-2 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Bernabé Paz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 22nd minute Reno Fonticoba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernabé Paz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bernabé Paz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Xano Castellano in the 26th minute of the match. After 26 minutes of play, Velez-Malaga's Xano Castellano made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Bernabé Paz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Bernabé Paz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Crescencio Guijarro, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Apat Cazorla received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Bernabé Paz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bernabé Paz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Bernabé Paz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kerim Tokgöz in the 44th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-5 lead.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Crescencio Guijarro got free with Bernabé Paz in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 55 minutes, Apat Cazorla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Velez-Malaga's supporters crossed their fingers, but Apat Cazorla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Reno Fonticoba managed to get in a good position for a shot. Velez-Malaga's supporters rose to their feet, but Reno Fonticoba was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bernabé Paz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Agur Aus recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. The supporters of Velez-Malaga booed when Alicante c.f. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bitxintxo Munoz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bernabé Paz was a little too slow when Crescencio Guijarro got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 67th minute. The score was now 0-6. In the 71st minute, Crescencio Guijarro made a precise shot to the right of Bernabé Paz. Alicante c.f.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-7. In the 73rd match minute, Alicante c.f. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Higinio Bencoiechea to maneuver through the defense. Bernabé Paz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Xano Castellano showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-8 in the 75 minute of play. 79 minutes into the match, Alicante c.f.'s goal looked a bit too open when Xano Castellano came free, but Bernabé Paz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Malvin Fernandez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Angelino Lawrence was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. When the final whistle sounded Velez-Malaga left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Alicante c.f..
