With an all-out effort, Sitges's Nils-Åke Andreasson threw himself towards the right post 27 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Arnulfo Revuelta, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Andrés Iniesta was slow to take the kick. During this time Deportivo Alavés's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Andrés Iniesta almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sitges's Rubén Urruti did a great save. After the first half Deportivo Alavés were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lesardo Alavedra stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Deportivo Alavés getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Lesardo Alavedra hit a great ball. In the 91st minute, Lesardo Alavedra fired away a free kick at the goal, but hit it at the wrong angle and it went over the crossbar. In a very dangerous position, a player in Sitges fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 93rd minute. Penalty! The Sitges supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Deportivo Alavés's performance. The match ended with a win for Deportivo Alavés.
