Ernst Trube started the match with the kick off. Through an outstanding action, after 6 minutes, Volker Backhaus successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. V. Resse's Volker Backhaus proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 7th minute of the match, managed to save V. Resse from getting a goal against them. The supporters of ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄ booed when V. Resse was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ernst Trube didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 12th minute of the match, Rex Brosig tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Volker Backhaus saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Rex Brosig's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Volker Backhaus read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. Arpad Klages who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 20thth minute tested the skills of Volker Backhaus when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ernst Trube during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to V. Resse getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Ernst Trube hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, V. Resse's Sven Dirks got a free kick in the 24th minute. After recieving a nice pass, ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄'s Eckard Wolbergs tried to score from far away in the 24th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Rex Brosig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Volker Backhaus tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ernst Trube blasted a shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Scott Grobe having to make a save. After a rather tough play, ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄'s Berko Elmer got a free kick in the 43rd minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Godo Boehm during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Arpad Klages's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Volker Backhaus read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rex Brosig made a kick off. Volker Backhaus took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arpad Klages, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rex Brosig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Volker Backhaus having to interfere. The ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄ fans' excitement grew in the 56th match minute when ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄'s Rex Brosig looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Rex Brosig recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some careless play in the V. Resse defense, Arpad Klages kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Volker Backhaus. The V. Resse fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Volker Backhaus should have stopped the shot. ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄'s Arpad Klages got a good chance for a goal in the 67th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Arpad Klages's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Volker Backhaus was relentless in the 71st minute of the game. Sven Dirks struck a weak shot in the 75th minute. Scott Grobe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for V. Resse. 80 minutes into the game, ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄'s Arpad Klages nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Volker Backhaus made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. 83 minutes into the match, V. Resse's goal looked a bit too open when Arpad Klages came free, but Volker Backhaus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arpad Klages charged in rather forcefully in the 85th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Arpad Klages the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄ getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Arpad Klages hit a great ball. 87 minutes into the match, V. Resse's goal looked a bit too open when Arpad Klages came free, but Volker Backhaus reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arpad Klages might have been able to make a better finish in the 92nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Volker Backhaus. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Arpad Klages ran back to his position shaking his head. For all the effort they put into the match, the V. Resse players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for ►1. FC Neubrandenburg 04◄.
