After 3 played minutes, Mehlen FSV's Carl Karger shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Robert Wirtgen came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Mehlen FSV reached it. When Mehlen FSV's Ronny Joder in the 5th minute got a chance for a shot 5th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Aura's goalie prevented a goal. In the 8th minute, Ronny Joder ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Robert Wirtgen was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Mehlen FSV's Ronny Joder got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Aura's zone, Carl Karger stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Robert Wirtgen came out of the goal and Carl Karger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Aura defense, Ronny Joder kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Robert Wirtgen. The Aura fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Robert Wirtgen should have stopped the shot. After having played for 27 minutes, Ronny Joder managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mehlen FSV's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ronny Joder was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Eros Strunk's late challenge caught a Mehlen FSV's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eros Strunk helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Mehlen FSV booed when Aura was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eros Strunk didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 30th minute, Ludwig Doll got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Ronny Joder's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Robert Wirtgen was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Robert Wirtgen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronny Joder's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Aura's goalkeeper Robert Wirtgen, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Robert Wirtgen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronny Joder, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After the first half Mehlen FSV were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ronny Joder stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Aura getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Frank-Ulrich Fauser hit a great ball. When Carl Karger came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Mehlen FSV fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carl Karger couldn't finish the play. Robert Wirtgen acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 55th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Johannes Dregler. Ronny Joder fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Robert Wirtgen having to interfere. After having played for 67 minutes, Ronny Joder managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mehlen FSV's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ronny Joder was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 69 minutes into the match, Ronny Joder had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Robert Wirtgen. Aura's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ronny Joder was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-5. Ronny Joder in the 72ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Robert Wirtgen, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 73 minutes into the match, Aura's goal looked a bit too open when Detlef Schumacher came free, but Robert Wirtgen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 75thth minute of the game Ronny Joder who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Aura's Robert Wirtgen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Aura's Robert Wirtgen proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to save Aura from getting a goal against them. Aura's Robert Wirtgen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronny Joder in the 80th minute of play. Rainer Jaspers recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Aura booed when Mehlen FSV was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johannes Dregler didn't get a good kick on the ball. Mehlen FSV played a much better game than Aura and deserved their victory. The Aura players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
