The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 4 played minutes Schalke got a freekick which was hit by Konstantin Hingst. In the 6th minute Niklas Kronig shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julien Vogler saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Krinkhof's Julien Vogler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Konstantin Hingst in the 10th minute of play. Marvin Suhrke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Schalke's Adil Lauf in the 14th minute got a chance for a shot 14th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Krinkhof's goalie prevented a goal. Julien Vogler showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marvin Suhrke in the 16th minute of the match. After 18 played minutes Krinkhof got a freekick which was hit by Marlon Rietentiet. Adil Lauf sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 23rd minute, Marvin Suhrke ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julien Vogler was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Adil Lauf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julien Vogler having to interfere. Krinkhof's Julien Vogler played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marvin Suhrke in the 30th minute of play. Julien Vogler made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adil Lauf in the 32nd minute of play. Marvin Suhrke struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Julien Vogler didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Schalke. 37 minutes into the game, Schalke's Adil Lauf nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Julien Vogler made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Adil Lauf in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julien Vogler saved Krinkhof from getting behind. A collision led to Schalke getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Konstantin Hingst hit a great ball. After the first half Schalke were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Marvin Suhrke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Julien Vogler tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 59th minute, Scott Markus hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Adil Lauf recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Marvin Suhrke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julien Vogler having to interfere. Marvin Suhrke recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Schalke booed when Krinkhof was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arne Anders didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Marlon Rietentiet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 83 played minutes Schalke got a freekick which was hit by Konstantin Hingst. After 91 minutes Krinkhof's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jens Schumacher who took care of the corner kick. Schalke's Jens Schumacher was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julien Vogler in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Julien Vogler was out of position in the 96 minute of play, and Adil Lauf capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Adil Lauf really showed his touch with that goal: 0-3. Schalke's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
