Dávid Kiprich took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgar Holler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, hamburger sv's goal looked a bit too open when Markus Nikolai came free, but Erhard Mende reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 13 minutes, Georg Herlitizius managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. hamburger sv's supporters crossed their fingers, but Georg Herlitizius was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ted Ahrendt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Dávid Kiprich made a huge save. Georg Herlitizius received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Dávid Kiprich tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dávid Kiprich made an important save on a dangerous shot by Georg Herlitizius in the 25th minute. Stephan Timmler kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Dávid Kiprich showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Toralf Mosig in the 30th minute of the match. Guido Seidenkranz struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Erhard Mende didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for IZMIR UNITED. Guido Seidenkranz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erhard Mende having to interfere. After 47 played minutes IZMIR UNITED got a freekick which was hit by Jürg Spörer. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 55th match minute, IZMIR UNITED was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Markus Nikolai to maneuver through the defense. Ted Ahrendt took the ball and in the 63 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dávid Kiprich. Dávid Kiprich dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Dávid Kiprich showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Georg Herlitizius in the 66th minute of the match. Edgar Holler recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 70th minute, hamburger sv's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Günter Lawen fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 72nd match minute, IZMIR UNITED was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guido Seidenkranz to maneuver through the defense. hamburger sv's Erhard Mende played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Guido Seidenkranz in the 74th minute of play. The supporters of hamburger sv booed when IZMIR UNITED was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jürg Spörer didn't get a good kick on the ball. Reinhold Boog succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 91st playminute. In the 96th match minute, hamburger sv was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edgar Holler to maneuver through the defense. Chants of IZMIR UNITED echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as hamburger sv had held the ball for most of the match.
