An unexpectedly hard shot by Hubert Ferber in the 5th minute of play forced 1.FC Scharlotzenburg's goalkeeper Hektor Budden to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Oliver Kahn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hermann Schlief having to interfere. 19 minutes into the game, Oliver Kahn recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Hermann Schlief. Oliver Kahn showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Roter Stern Bonn FC's Hermann Schlief played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Oliver Kahn in the 23rd minute of play. Hektor Budden showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hubert Ferber, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Linus Ungewitter kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Roter Stern Bonn FC's goalkeeper Hermann Schlief had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Yussuf Laubner. In the 32nd minute, 1.FC Scharlotzenburg's Oliver Kahn ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Hermann Schlief. Hermann Schlief yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. The supporters of Roter Stern Bonn FC booed when 1.FC Scharlotzenburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Boris Erkelenz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hermann Schlief made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Yussuf Laubner sent off a good shot on target. When the match clock showed 41 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Oliver Kahn sped through Roter Stern Bonn FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Hermann Schlief. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

Yussuf Laubner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Roter Stern Bonn FC's Hermann Schlief played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Yussuf Laubner in the 56th minute of play. After 57 played minutes Roter Stern Bonn FC got a freekick which was hit by Mattes Wacker. After having played for 62 minutes, Hubert Ferber managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Roter Stern Bonn FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hubert Ferber was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hermann Schlief came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by 1.FC Scharlotzenburg's Oliver Kahn. But to his dismay, Oliver Kahn quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Oliver Kahn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hermann Schlief having to interfere. Yussuf Laubner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Roter Stern Bonn FC getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Kai Bracht hit a great ball. In the 79th minute of the match Niclas Pless shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Hermann Schlief showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Oliver Kahn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Oliver Kahn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Oliver Kahn received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Hermann Schlief tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Yussuf Laubner sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a defensive mix-up in 1.FC Scharlotzenburg's zone, Florian Hillenbrand stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hektor Budden came out of the goal and Florian Hillenbrand tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the referee ended the match the 1.FC Scharlotzenburg players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
