Siegmund Splett made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Andreas von Gartzens short, quick shot in the 13thth minute got Benedetto Nauert to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 15 played minutes 1.FC Union Berlin got a freekick which was hit by Onno Laubner. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ingo Morchner in the 24th minute of play forced 1.FC Union Berlin's goalkeeper Siegmund Splett to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benedetto Nauert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elvis Freese in the 25th minute of the match. Siegmund Splett took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ingo Morchner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 39 minutes, Elvis Freese managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 1.FC Union Berlin's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elvis Freese was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gunnar Betzmann kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 75 minutes, Elvis Freese put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Benedetto Nauert. Andreas Papies kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. Henning Schwalm's shot from long distance in the 87th minute was not bad at all, but 1.FC Union Berlin's Siegmund Splett knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. Elvis Freese fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benedetto Nauert having to interfere. Elvis Freese received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Benedetto Nauert tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benedetto Nauert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andreas von Gartzen in the 94th minute of the match. 96 minutes into the match, Elvis Freese had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benedetto Nauert. FC Chelsea Cottbus's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Elvis Freese was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-1. When the referee ended the match the 1.FC Union Berlin players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
