The audience thought a goal was coming when Götz Pengel got free with Eibo Willsch in the 6th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Götz Pengel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience was convinced that Folker Springfeld's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Geert Tippelt was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. When Johann Tönhardt came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Im Schöll fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Johann Tönhardt couldn't finish the play. Götz Pengel could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Eibo Willsch made a huge save. Geert Tippelt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Johann Tönhardt in the 39th minute of play. Johann Tönhardt sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. GALATASARAY 67's Geert Tippelt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Johann Tönhardt in the 45th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Marcus Pausch to make the kick off. Johann Tönhardt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geert Tippelt having to interfere. In the 54th minute, Marcus Pausch got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Geert Tippelt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcus Pausch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Götz Pengel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Eibo Willsch tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 66th minute Götz Pengel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eibo Willsch saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
