But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roman Babel couldn't finish the play. Uwe Thömmes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adé Binder, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Markus Luft made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lauro Ahrendt in the 21st minute of play. Hamburger SV succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though TuS Schönenberg had controlled the match.
